How to compare quotes properly

1. Compare the same grade. FR against FR, FRLS against FRLS. An FR quote will always undercut an FRLS quote, and the two are not the same product.
2. Compare per metre, not per coil. A 180m coil quoted against a 90m coil is not a cheaper price.
3. Check the size mix. A cheaper total often means less 4.0 sq mm — which is a specification change, not a saving.
4. Ask what happens if a coil is short or faulty. Replacement policy is worth more than 2% on price.
5. Treat outliers with suspicion. On a 3–5% margin business, a quote 15% below the pack is not competitive pricing.
