Many buyers hand material purchasing to their electrician — and some shops quietly pay electricians a commission for steering purchases their way. The electrician insists on "his" shop, the shop bills a premium brand and supplies a look-alike, and the commission comes out of the margin a duplicate makes possible. Tactic 2: The impossible discount — wires are a 3–5% margin business
Here is the single most useful fact in this guide: genuine wires and cables are a 3–5% margin business. The copper inside a coil has a market cost that every honest seller pays. That means no genuine seller — however large — can sell far below the market rate.
