How to Identify Duplicate Indo Asian MCBs Before They Reach Your DB

Ask yourself one question before buying a breaker: if this MCB never has to work, was it worth faking? Counterfeiters answer yes every day. A copied Indo Asian breaker can sit in a distribution board for years looking perfectly respectable, because on most days a breaker does nothing. Its entire value is concentrated into the few milliseconds of a short circuit — and that is the one moment a fake was never engineered for. Indo Asian, like every genuine manufacturer, is the victim of this trade, not a party to it.

Verify what you can see

You cannot fault-test a breaker at the counter, so inspect everything visible:

  • ISI mark: the standards marking must be present, sharp and correctly placed on the front face. This is the first and fastest check.
  • Front-face rating: current rating and curve (for example C16) printed cleanly and identically across every piece in the box. Variation within one box is a red flag.
  • Breaking-capacity marking: genuine breakers state their breaking capacity on the front. A missing or inconsistent kA figure is a warning.
  • Serial and date codes: look for date or batch coding on the body; a full box of identical codes suggests duplication rather than production.
  • Terminal quality: genuine terminals are cleanly machined, the screws turn smoothly and grip squarely. Burrs, gritty threads and soft metal are the marks of a cheap copy.
  • Packaging: crisp print, correct spelling, proper inner packing; and where Indo Asian provides a hologram, QR code or scratch-based verification, use it before payment.

The price test

Electrical distribution is a 3 to 5 percent margin business, so genuine sellers cluster tightly around the market rate. A quote far below that cluster is not a bargain on a safety device — it is the classic duplicate signature. Compare prices at two or three shops, and let the outlier disqualify itself.

The channel test

Buy from authorised dealers, ask to see their authorisation certificate, and insist on a GST bill naming Indo Asian and the exact ratings. Counterfeit protection devices survive only in bill-free channels. Our guide to original vs duplicate electrical products explains the pattern across categories.

Cross-check the price with Mount Cable

We do not stock Indo Asian, which makes our reference neutral: WhatsApp your DB list to +91 88676 76700 and within 60 minutes we will tell you where genuine breaker pricing sits, and can arrange equivalent protection from brands we do distribute, such as Legrand, Schneider and HPL. There is no pressure to buy from us — but if the quote in your hand is far below the genuine reference, walk away. Related: our price lists and quote page.
