Here's a simple rule seasoned buyers follow: when you're not 100% sure about a shop, buy Finolex in sealed 90-metre boxes. It sounds almost too simple, but it closes off most of the ways duplicate wire gets sold.

Why the 90M box is hard to fake

• QR-coded carton. Every genuine 90M box carries a QR code you can scan and verify in 30 seconds. Reproducing valid codes at scale is far harder than copying a label's look.
• Factory-printed packaging. The carton's print quality, colours, batch number and grade markings come off Finolex's own line. Counterfeit cartons almost always give themselves away — blurry print, wrong shades, spelling slips, pasted stickers.
• Sealed and tamper-evident. A sealed box means nobody has swapped the coil inside. A tampered or re-taped box is an instant red flag.
• Verifiable length. Genuine Finolex wire carries sequential metre markings — unroll a little and the numbers should run continuously toward 90 metres. Short-length coils are one of the most common frauds.

Where buyers get cheated instead

Duplicates mostly enter through loose wire, cut lengths and unboxed coils — "we'll give you 60 metres from this bundle, saab, cheaper rate". No box means no QR, no batch, no seal, no way to verify. Whatever the saving, you cannot check what you're buying. The same goes for a price that's dramatically below every other shop's — genuine copper has a floor cost, and a "steal" price is the classic signature of a duplicate.

What about 180M and 300M coils?

Larger Finolex coils (180M, 300M) are genuine, economical choices for a full house — and we stock them all.
